Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post on how to finish painting a room in only a few hours. If you haven't already seen the last two blog posts, our family rental was trashed by the previous tenants. After trying to paint over with white contractors paint we ran into a bit of an issues, well several actually. First off, it is hard to see what you have painted already and what needs to be painted because of bad lighting and a time crunch. Second, that paint is THIN and putting in the time to paint the walls twice over (more on this in another post) was not going to be happening all over the house. Then it dawned on us, wouldn't it be better to paint the upstairs bedrooms and hallway in another color so we could see what has been/needs to be painted better, cover in one coat, and also later be able to keep track of any damage to the walls? The answer is yes to all of those queries. We chose a bluish-grey color Urban Sunset in Valspar's Paint and Primer with a flat enamel finish. Holy cow did this cut down on the time we spent painting. The trick is, we didn't have time to tape the ceilings, windows etc. So now for our time saving tips for painting with two people: one person cuts in (edges with a regular painting brush) and another rolls and fills it in. This worked out great. The lines along the ceilings and baseboards aren't perfect but the different from before and after was pretty remarkable. It looked like an entirely different house upstairs!
After spending an entire day painting the downstairs walls TWICE, over the course of two days we spent about 8 hours painting 4 small bedrooms and one medium size hallway!
The nice thing about this paint is that it is durable and had really good coverage so hopefully it will be easy to keep so fresh and so clean. Rather than spend hours painting several coats and spending about the same $$$ for several buckets of contractor paint, I recommend just getting the good paint. I hope this helps and remember that cutting in (edging by hand) just takes some time, patience, and a steady hand. But not having to use an edger or painters tape was a complete relief. Hope this tip helps and I'll try to have some other tutorial posts up soon!
